As you know, much attention is focused on the recent discovery of a new flu virus.

The Blood Alliance, along with a task force of all blood collection organizations, is staying tuned to advice from Public Health experts.

We are handling blood donations with the same care given during the "ordinary" flu season that occurs every year.

The need for blood donors continues on a daily basis.  If you are feeling well and healthy, please consider making an appointment with The Blood Alliance.

DONOR PRECAUTIONS:

*Donors should be in good health and feeling well, have no symptoms of colds or flu, and a normal temperature.

*Donors are advised to report any illnesses that occur after their donation, so that the safety of the blood supply can be evaluated.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS (from CDC)

*Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

*Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

*Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs can spread that way.

*If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from spreading the virus.

The Blood Alliance will keep you updated on any further developments.
